Our resources

Where do our resources come from?

The resources of the AFM are presented in the Resources Use Account under two distinct sections – resources not related to the Téléthon and those related to Téléthon activities.

Resources available at 1 January 2007

The resources available on 1 January 2007 are constituted at the end of 2006 and allow the AFM to pursue its activities in 2007 and beyond. These resources amount to 151 210 751 euros, 65% of which come from donations following the Téléthon in December 2006 and 7,2% from the balance of the 2005 funds. Resources prior to 2005 represent 27,8% of the total amount.

There are several reasons why the funds collected by the AFM were not committed during the year they were collected. Two of these reasons are:

> during the Téléthon, which takes place at the beginning of December, many viewers make promises of donations that are fulfilled only in the weeks following the event. Thus the AFM does not dispose of the entirety of the donations until well into the first quarter of the following year. These amounts, known exactly only when the accounts are settled, are accounted for in the Téléthon budget.

> occasionally, and for different reasons often independent of the AFM (hold-ups on the part of institutions or partners, delays in start-ups of scientific programmes etc) activities planned for a particular year cannot be undertaken according to the initial timetable. Their achievement, and the corresponding financial investment, is then carried over to the next financial year.
Non-Téléthon resources collected during the year

Total 2007 : 17 507 354 euros
Total 2006 : 15 689 844 euros

> A medical establishment (2007 :  7 059 485 euros; 2006 : 6 821 018 euros) : The AFM administrates a medical establishment which accommodates 51 seriously disabled and dependent persons and is permanently occupied at 100% of its capacity. In 2007 the resources of this registered and approved establishment amounted to 7 059 485 euros of which 6 792 568 euros were covered by social security organisations. These resources were not sufficient to cover running costs, as the year showed a loss of 83 747 euros, under the control of the independent outsider.

> Public donations (apart from Téléthon) (2007 : 3 012 384 euros; 2006 : 1 999 243 euros) : These include bequests (2 773 574 euros), non-Téléthon donations (467 915 euros) and subscriptions (238 810 euros).

> Subscriptions (2007 : 81 480 ; 2006 : 61 940).

> Local authority subsidies (2007 :  949 823 euros; 2006 : 703 321 euros).

> Miscellaneous revenues (2007 :  331 974 euros; 2006 : 419 895 euros). These consist mainly of receipts of our local delegations.

> Financial products (2007 : 5 669 840 euros; 2006 : 5 425 433 euros). These are accounted for under the financial year to which they depend. These amounts can be explained particularly by the concentration of fundraising activities during the several weeks following the Téléthon. These funds are invested for later use as and when needed.

> Other products (2007 : 402 038 euros; 2006 : 258 994 euros).

Resources Use Account – Questions and Answers

What exactly is meant by: resources available on 1 January ?
These are the resources that the AFM has at its disposal at the end of 2006 for its activities in 2007 and beyond.

What are "non-Téléthon resources" ?
These are donations not related to the Téléthon – bequests, receipts from local delegations, subsidies and financial products linked to the investment of Téléthon funds.

What is : use of planned activities over future financial years ?
The funds collected following the Téléthon, which takes place at the end of the year (December), cannot be committed during the year of their fundraising. Therefore it is possible to constitute special funds to finance the social missions of the Association over the following financial years.

How is the allocation of association equity capital used ?
This allocation allows the AFM to envisage medium or long term projects or investments (e.g. equipping laboratories), or to take on the cost of unforeseen or special projects.
